NBA 2k League inks live-stream deal with Twitch
The NBA and Twitch announced today a partnership to live-stream all NBA 2k League games in a multi-year deal. Twitch is the leading live streaming video platform on the market right now and continues to grow on a day to day basis. The 2k league will debut on May 1 and will include up to 199 games to be broadcast on Twitch. Full regular season play, tournaments, and playoffs which includes a 600,000 prize pool will run from May to August.
NBA 2k league Managing Director Brendan Donohue expressed his excitement for the deal, "This is a groundbreaking partnership for the NBA 2k League...Twitch shares our innovative spirit and commitment to putting the gaming community first, and is the ideal home to provide our passionate 2k, NBA and esports fans around the world with the opportunity to catch all the excitement of our inaugural season".
With Twitch reaching to more gamers and non-gamers it sets up the NBA 2k League to start off on a strong foot and continue to grow in esports. Many people are familiar with NBA 2k so it will be easy to follow what is going on in the game. It will be traditional 5 on 5 basketball with the players play as their own virtual avatars in their prospective position: Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward, Center, and a sixth man.
